SOME TOOLS OF THE TRADE
There are a few things you'll need to get started customizing your own figures. Below are a few links to some thing that you may need. Some of them are must haves, like paint and brushes. Other things like airbrushes aren't necessary, but make life much easier for a customizer!
BRUSHES, AIRBRUSHES, & PAINT
One of the most basic elements of customizing is paint. Though great results can be achieved with almost any kind of paint, a high quality acrylic is definitely your best bet. You're also going to need a good quality fine tipped paintbrush. Though not a "must have", you can get amazing results painting with an airbrush. Here are a few suggestions for painting.
Sculpting Materials
As with many hobbies, there are some tools that an action figure customizer can't live without and some that will make you wonder how you lived without them. From a Dremel to sand joints to a jewelers headset to see fine details, here are a few tools that I have in my arsenal that any customizer could benifit from!

Useful Tools
You're going to need some sculpting material. Even if you don't think you'll be carving out your own action figure heads any time soon, it's great to have the right material for filling a gap, smoothing over a detail, or repairing a "mess up". It's important to choose the right priduct for the figure you're working with. It's also not a bad idea to pick up a set of carving tools. They really make working with your sculpting material eaiser. Here are a few good examples of some sculpting products that work great for customizing.
The ability to make a mold of and cast parts of figures can be invaluble to a customizer. Here are some products that can get you started casting your own parts.
